Why won’t one or more VPP apps install?

Before you can start distributing VPP apps to your clients, you have to make sure that..

Device Assigned

  • The iPads and iOS version meets the minimum system requirements of the app.
  • Optionally: the devices that’ll receive the apps are “Supervised”. Without the Supervised status, the device will ask for the Apple ID credentials if you haven’t entered them +/- 15 minutes ago. If the device is supervised and the logged-in Apple ID is “Associated” with VPP, the installation will be completely silent.

Removed by User / 32 Bit app

There are several reasons why an App will show as Removed by User / 32 Bit app when trying to install:

  1. The App is really removed by user
  2. The App installation has been scheduled, but the installation command hasn't been acknowledged by the device yet.
  3. The App is a 32 bit App which isn't supported by iOS 11 or higher devices.

If it appears that a device might be stuck with the installation being scheduled, but the installation command has not been acknowledged by the device yet, we recommend to check the box 'Automatically reinstall apps that are removed by user'. When having the automatic re-install checked, the apps that are in this status will automatically try to re-install upon the next check in.

Note: This will also re-install any app that has been removed by the user.

In case the app is a 32-bit App, you should check if the device is running iOS 11, since 32-bit Apps are no longer supported by iOS 11. If this is the case, you should go to the specific app page to see if it's 32-bit.

The App says 'Assign only, not installed' how can I get this app installed?

You'll see this status when you've configured the App to be installed on demand with the use of the ZuluDesk Client App. To convert this to an Automatic installation, you should press the Cogwheel button either on a device scope or on the right side of the app detail page;

Whenever I add a new device group to the scope, the installation type defaults to On-Demand, can I change that?

Yes, you can change this by going to Organisation > Settings > Apps & Documents > "Enable automatic installation for new groups in the scope of an application or document"

App installation status is stuck on 'Pending', why is it still pending?

The installation of an App can be pending for different reasons.

  1. The device hasn't checked in yet.
  2. The device is locked with a passcode. This results in a 'NotNow' within the devices' activity log.
  3. Tethered caching is configured. The installation will only start once the device is connected to a MacOS device.

Apple ID Assigned

  • The iPads and iOS version meets the minimum system requirements of the app.
  • The users that’ll receive the app have the VPP status “Associated”. This means they have received the VPP invitation andaccepted it. You can check this by navigating to “Users & Groups” -> “Overview” and search for the “VPP Status” column. Make sure all users that’ll receive VPP apps have the “Associated” status;

  • The checkboxes for “Auto-grant VPP licenses to users in scope” and “Auto-revoke VPP licenses from out-of-scope users” at the details page of the app(s) are ticked and the “Installation Type” is set to “Automatically install/remove”;
